The Doppler effect or Doppler shift is the change in frequency of a wave in relation to an observer who is moving relative to the wave source. It is a very interesting and important topic in astronomy. When the source of light moves away from the observer the wavelength of light increases and the frequency decreases, because, the speed of light for any observer is constant and speed of light is the product of its wavelength and frequency. The mathematical equation for the change in wavelength in non-relativistic Doppler effect is Δλ/Ξ» = v/c.
